Julia Burns has been a dispute resolution lawyer since she was admitted as a solicitor in 2005.
She has worked in the specialist field of contentious trusts and probate for 12 years and joined Merali Beedle in 2019. Julia trained with Clarion Solicitors in Leeds before moving to the market-leading Will, Trust and Estate Disputes team at Irwin Mitchell in 2013, where she developed a national reputation as an experienced contentious trusts and probate solicitor. Julia is ranked as a Rising Star in her field in the Legal 500 2020 edition.
Julia is ACTAPS (Association of Contentious Trusts and Probate Specialists) qualified, a STEP (Society for Trusts and Estate Practitioners) Affiliate Member and a committee member of ConTrA (Contentious Trusts Association). Julia is also a CEDR accredited and certified private client mediator and runs her own inheritance and private wealth and inheritance disputes mediation business alongside her legal work. She is a visiting lecturer at BPP Professional Education.
Julia handles cases in relation to the validity of wills, claims for reasonable financial provision under the Inheritance (Provision for Family and Dependants) Act 1975, trust litigation including disputes between executors, trustees and beneficiaries, proprietary estoppel / constructive trust claims, financial abuse cases and disputes arising in the Court of Protection. Julia has successfully concluded several family farm succession disputes and has a reputation in this field.
